The story was very interesting in that we can find the Hero’s journey in such a short story. The most interesting part to me was the third part, refusal of the call. In the story, protagonist refuses the call of adventure, not by his own will, but by his feeling that he doe not want to go home. I was a bit confused about considering this as a refusal, but, the decision was made by the protagonist. He did not want to go home, because of many reasons, he was hungry but there were no food to eat. In my opinion, there was a quick, a real short refusal of the call, which suddenly changed, and lead Ivan to his adventure.
What made me astonished was how Chekhov wrote this story, because it is really abnormal. A boy on a journey and achieves two women crying. To me I can’t understand the purpose of this short story. Maybe that was because of my lack of understanding of how Russia was going on at that time, maybe because I lacked background informations or else.

Good analysis, and you clearly understand the refusal of the call, even though this story doesn't really need it. Only Vasilisa cry, but her tears are sort of Ivan's confirmation that he has a future as a priest in the church. You write well and have deep thoughts, so I hope you can keep up and not fall behind. Each story should only require a few minutes of typing and you don't need to be as detailed as this. You can just share your thoughts freely without research. Do not overlook the reading journal. It is more important then exams.
